NAME: The Knight (Called "Little Ghost" by their sister Hornet)
CANON: Hollow Knight
CANON POINT: Dream No More ending
AGE: Hundreds, possibly thousands of years
BACKGROUND: Wiki
PERSONALITY: When you have no voice to speak with and no face to emote with, it can be difficult to communicate any form of personality, desires, or values. But in the end, actions are what really matter, and the actions the strange, silent, masked being known only as the Knight takes over the course of their adventure through the ruined kingdom of Hallownest (and indeed, before they even start said journey) are what truly define them and show who they are.
The main defining characteristic of the Knight would probably be determination. If someone hangs around with them for a while and that person learns nothing else about the strange little insectoid creature, what they do learn will be that the Knight will not be stopped, ever, from completing an objective they have set for themselves. Even destroying them is only a temporary setback for them, that's how strong-willed they are to continue pursuing their objective. Granted, their nature and abilities help with that... but it doesn't take one iota away from their sheer drive. Even being sealed away in the Abyss soon after their creation didn't stop them. Though admittedly, when they saw another vessel had been chosen in their place, that was the first and only time they seemed to give up.
Another thing people quickly tend to pick up on about the Knight is that, while they can't speak themselves, they are more than willing to stop and listen to anyone who wants to talk to them. Whether it's the Elderbug welcoming them to Dirtmouth and waxing philosophical about the glory days of Hallownest, Ogrim's boisterous greetings and complimenting of their skill, or even Zote's arrogant and obnoxious ramblings, the Knight listens to it all without the slightest hint of impatience or desire to move on.
They're also very curious, searching through every last nook and cranny of the ancient kingdom for things that might be useful to their quest, and putting anything they find to good use, whether it be increasing their durability, accessing new spells, or upgrading their weapon. They even go so far as to complete tasks that have nothing to do with their overarching goal, such as competing in the Coliseum of Fools. Granted, the first two cups of the Coliseum have valuable rewards for them, but the last one is just for "glory" which they never show any real interest in.
A constant willingness to help is another trait that seems to define the Knight. If someone so much as suggests they want something, they'll hop to it as though the future of the kingdom depends on it, even if there's no actual promise or even hint of a reward. They seem to do it either for the gratitude of the ones helped, or simply because it's there to be done, and they intend to complete every task available to them. When it comes to absurdly difficult and complex tasks, like carrying a flower that will be destroyed if they get struck practically across the entire kingdom to rest it on a grave? They'll do that too.
It's very hard to tell if the Knight cares about people to begin with, or if they just do what they do out of some strange inner drive only they understand. As such, it's almost impossible to tell if the Knight can be said to have friends, despite the great lengths they go to in helping or just connecting with certain characters, like Ogrim the Dung Defender or the mysterious Grimm. It's hard to tell if they even feel a special kinship with their "siblings", Hornet and the Hollow Knight. But in the end, they all work together to defeat the Radiance and save what remains of the kingdom, and Hornet's the one who guides them most of the way. The Knight clearly trusts and relies on her, if nothing else.
In the end, no matter its motives for being so, it's clear that the Knight is aptly named. Steadfast, brave, and oddly kind in its own strange way, the dark creature is the ideal hero for a place like Hallownest. In Lunatia, they'll embrace a new purpose, make connections and find people to protect... and maybe, just maybe, discover more things about themselves along the way.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Master Sword-wielder: The Knight is devastatingly good with their weapon. It's technically called a "nail" but one look at it will have anyone familiar with fantasy tropes saying basically "yeah that's a sword".
Shade Soul: A powerful, void touched shadow appears in front of the Knight and rushes forward, damaging anything in its path.
Abyss Shriek: Void energy takes on the form of several scream faces above the Knight, devastating anything in its path.
Descending Dark: The Knight surrounds themselves in void energy and plummets into the ground, creating shockwaves to blow opponents back or crush them.
Focus: By focusing their energy, the Knight can heal themselves.
Shade Cloak: The Knight can immediately dash forward, covering a great deal of ground and covering themselves in shadow to make themselves invulnerable as they do so.
Mantis Claw: The Knight can cling to walls.
Monarch Wings: The Knight can flap these wings once for an extra jump in the air.
Crystal Heart: By charging up this power, the Knight can blast forward at great speed. They will not stop until either they choose to or they collide with something that isn't simply knocked out of the way.
Dream Nail: A swipe from this can let the Knight either look into the surface thoughts of people who are awake, enter the dreams of those who are asleep, or destroy lingering spirits.
Resurrective Immortality: The Knight's body can be destroyed, but it will simply re-form at the last place it rested. A shade of the Knight's power will remain in the place it "died" but the Knight can simply make contact with it and re-absorb that power. (NERFED IN-GAME)
The Void Heart: All of the void, all darkness is united with the Knight. Void creatures are no threat to it, and it can call darkness forth to aid it, and form bonds with beings made of the void.
INVENTORY: Pure Nail: A powerful, unbreakable sword-like weapon.
Quick Slash Charm: Makes the Knight strike faster.
Mark of Pride Charm: Makes the Knight's nail longer.
Sharp Shadow Charm: The Knight's Shade Cloak does damage to any enemy that touches it when in use.
Unbreakable Strength Charm: Makes the Knight strike harder with their nail.
Shape of Unn Charm: The Knight transforms into a snail when healing.
